Ulrich Nettesheim

As a co-founder of Passages Consulting, Ulrich has a 20-year successful track record supporting senior executives who must execute the business’ strategy in the face of major challenges. He advises and coaches senior leaders and their teams, ranging from CEOs of the Fortune 500 to start-ups, to heads of business units and functions to Chairmen of global non-profits. Ulrich helps strengthen and broaden the capabilities of the leader, their team and the organization.

  • Supporting the CEO of a category leading $5Bn consumer packaged goods company to increase his clarity on how he aspires to lead and how to further extend his own leadership capabilities to include transforming his direct reports into a high performing executive team, improving the governance structure and relationships (including the board) to increase effective strategy execution, and to evolve the culture and capabilities of the organization to enable greater innovation and accelerate international growth.
  • Supporting a successful CEO transition for a leading $800M global professional services firm. Helped the new CEO rapidly establish and launch a first year strategic platform after unexpected business events triggered succession. Assisted in articulating the strategy, redesigning the governance structure and creating greater engagement of key stakeholders to accelerate execution.
  • Advising the former founder and CEO of a highly successful high tech start-up with his latest venture aimed at transforming the business and service delivery models of wireless service providers. Helping him think about the type of CEO he wants to be, how to build up a board that values smart and sustainable growth, and how to bake his values of innovation, collaboration and integrity into the culture of the company from the beginning.
Ulrich specializes in working with leaders that need to change how they lead to deliver on the aspirations and commitments they have made to themselves and their organization. He works closely with the individual leader and senior team as they engage the broader organization in executing business strategy. Formerly a partner with Delta Consulting Group, Ulrich has extensive experience across various industries and markets. Recent clients include Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, Stealthy Tel, Hershey, MillerCoors, Cadbury, Welchs, JP Morgan Chase, Kroll Worldwide, HP, TriHealth, Pfizer and Transparency International.

Ulrich earned a B.A. in the life sciences from DePauw University and an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. He has held executive positions as Director of Planning at USC Medical Center and various management roles in consulting over the years. He is an active angel investor in the Bay Area, a Reviewer for the Califorina Management Review (CMR), and served as a Board Member of The Berkeley School. Ulrich is a regular guest lecturer at the Haas Business School, including a course on innovation. His current research focuses on how well leaders and teams understand trust and its impact on their working relationships. Ulrich loves spending time with his family, is passionate about soccer and music and enjoys keeping on top of geo-political developments around the globe.
